2009 Sanya Forum Date Set
The Cheung Kong Sanya Forum will be held in Yalong Bay, Hainan on 9 January 2009 in cooperation with the Hainan Provincial Government. At last year's Sanya Forum an audience of over 800 Chinese entrepreneurs heard from Morgan Stanley Asia Chairman Stephen Roach, Nobuyuki Idei, former CEO of Sony, Charles Zhang representing Sohu.com and LG China CEO Nam-Kyun Woo, speaking on the topic of China's relation with East Asia. |

Playing with Fire: an Interview with Cheung Kong Strategy Professor Teng Bingsheng
Are foreign firms in China neglecting the risk of Chinese nationalism to their business? What should companies be doing, given the recent problems Carrefour and McDonalds have had? In this interview Associate Professor Teng Binsheng tells us that; the effects of nationalism' could be long-lasting, and he warns multinationals that if you 'see your China operation only as a subsidiary then you will not respond appropriately'. Dean Xiang and European Business Opportunities
Dean Xiang spoke of China-German opportunities on 19 June with Prof. von Morgenstern, MD of McKinsey High Tech Practice and the President of Citibank, Mr. Huang Xiaoguang. The Dean then visited Switzerland and Spain for meetings at business schools including IMD, and IE in Madrid where twenty students of this year's EMBA class had their week's residential course in late June. |

The Judo Strategy: How to Defeat a Stronger Competitor

| EMBA Thesis Defense
Professors have been examining the EMBA 9th Class on their theses at the end of June. EMBA students study part-time for one year, followed by half a year period to complete their theses. Topics cover the full range of business disciplines from accounting and finance to strategy and marketing. Meanwhile interviews are ongoing to select the class of around 250 executives to start their EMBA in the fall. |

Zheng Yonggang: The WSJ Interview
Mr. Zheng, CEO of Shanshan Investments, is a current member of The Cheung Kong China CEO Program. The global, comprehensive CEO Program started with a module in Hong Kong at which Mr Zheng was interviewed by Wall Street Journal. It was followed by a module at INSEAD in Fontainebleau in early June and will continue with in New York at Columbia Business School for 4 days and it will conclude with a session in Sanya in January 2009.
