Set in Shanghai, one of the world’s most dynamic and fastest growing international cities, the Cheung Kong MBA is committed to nurturing a global culture with strong interest in China. We encourage international applicants to become familiar with our program offerings, professors, campus, and to talk with current Cheung Kong students about their experiences coming to Shanghai to study with China’s best and brightest business students.
15% of students in our current class come from abroad, including students from Germany, Switzerland, South Korea, Canada, and Singapore.
Insights on China business gained in and out of the classroom with our world-class professors and students differentiate us from typical MBA programs in developed countries. In addition, the Cheung Kong alumni network is an asset for doing business in China that increases in value through the years.
Admission Interviews for International Applicants
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis up through August of the intended entrance year (with classes starting later in the fall). International applicants are encouraged to submit their MBA program applications early in order to schedule admissions interviews and to apply for appropriate student visas.
We highly recommend that international students make a trip to Shanghai for a campus visit, meet the admissions staff as well as other students and professors. For those applicants who pass initial screening but are unable to physically visit Shanghai, the admissions team will arrange a telephone interview between the applicant and the Admissions Committee.
Visas
Once accepted into the MBA program, international students should send a photocopy of their passport three months before the program starts so that we can arrange the JW202 permit (留学生资格申请表). After obtaining the JW202, foreign students can apply for an X-visa (student visa) at the Chinese Embassy or consulate in their home country. Overseas students must arrive in China at least one week before classes begin to apply for a residence permit.
Tuition and Financial Aid
As part of the admission process, overseas applicants will be considered for the various scholarship programs made possible through support provided by the Foundation of Mr. Li Ka-shing. Based on their personal merit and background, international students could earn scholarships covering up to half or more of their MBA program tuition.
Some international students come with near-fluent Chinese while others learn their first Chinese words in the preparatory courses offered by our MBA program. Regardless of which category you fall under, Chinese language ability is an important asset for those international students who aim to stay in China for post-MBA careers. Some of our international students even commit themselves to multiple months of dedicated study either before or after the MBA program. Cheung Kong currently offers flexible, one-on-one Chinese courses for international students throughout the academic year.
Tuition for international students is the same as that offered to Mainland Chinese students and can be paid either in US Dollars (payments in foreign currencies are converted at the exchange rate prevailing on the date of transaction) or in Chinese RMB.
