Program Outline

Multinational companies that entered China over the past two decades have achieved great success, growth and local knowledge. Just as multinational companies complete their entry into all sectors of the China market, economic growth patterns in China are undergoing drastic shifts creating new challenges. How to compete against and cooperate with indigenous companies in the emerging market? What leads to a successful acquisition and alliance in Chinese industrial integration? How to position the China section within a global company? How to react to changes in Chinese macro-economy and policy?

Since the successful launch of our inaugural programs in 2006 with "China CEO Program", "From Good to Great", and "A Look on Chinese Enterprises Development from the Rise of Asian Enterprises", Cheung Kong EDP has continued to emphasize innovation to consistently improve the programs. Based on deepening insight into the many practical issues that enterprises are facing in their development, Cheung Kong EDP has designed and launched several new programs:

China CEO Program:The China CEO Program is a series of modules tailored to the specific needs of Chinese enterprises as they confront issues such as globalization, competition with MNCs, and the struggle to become global leaders within their sectors. Initiated by Cheung Kong GSB jointly with Wharton and INSEAD in 2006, the program attracted 35 Mainland CEOs including Jack Ma of Alibaba, Fu Chengyu of CNOOC, and Niu Gensheng of Mengniu Diary. The program also includes comparative studies on advanced European and American enterprises, as well India, Brazil, Russia and other Asian emerging markets to compare and contrast with the China situation.

China Country Manager Program:The Cheung Kong GSB China Country Manager Program aims to assist China Country managers of multinational corporations to fully understand the character and opportunities inherent in emerging markets such as China to better formulate, adapt, and execute effective China market strategies. At the macro-level, the Program provides analysis of China's current economic situation and future trends. At the company level, the Program helps participating executives grasp development opportunities across various industries in China's rapidly evolving market. In addition, participating executives will explore the influence religion and philosophy have exerted over the development of Asian enterprises to gain a fuller picture of the China business context. At the personal level, the Program aims to assist participating executives to further develop leadership skills and achieve career development objectives.

China-India CEO Program:Launched jointly by Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, the Confederation of Indian Industry and INSEAD in 2007, the path-breaking China-India CEO Program brings Chinese and Indian CEOs together for courses and discussions. The first module, hosted by Cheung Kong GSB and taught by Cheung Kong faculty in Beijing will be followed by a second module to be hosted in Delhi by the Confederation of Indian Industry with instruction from INSEAD professors. The Program provides analysis and a platform for discussion of competition-collaboration issues for Chinese and Indian business leaders, in an effort to deepen understanding between the "China Dragon" and the "Indian Elephant".

China-Korean CEO Program:
Launched in collaboration with Seoul National University in 2007, the Cheung Kong China-Korea CEO Dialogue is a series of modules tailored to the specific issues faced by top Chinese and Korean CEOs. The program brings dozens of Chinese and Korean CEOs together for courses taught by distinguished faculty from the two universities and for discussions led by program participants. The Program explores East Asian humanistic commonality in parallel with forward-looking issues such as globalization and challenges faced by business over the coming decade. The Program is also a platform to nurture understanding and friendship that underpins cooperation and collaboration.

Real Estate Advanced Management Program:Launched in collaboration with the Marshall School Business at the University of Southern California, the Program is tailored for senior executives operating domestic real estate companies. The Program provides macro-level analysis of policy and industry trends, while presenting cutting edge theories and practical experience in the areas of global real estate finance and investment, public markets, and capital operations.

In 2007, Cheung Kong EDP launched open programs centered in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, while also offering a series of customized programs for specific enterprises across various industries. These customized programs tie together management training programs with the specific strategies, cultures, and industries of the client, enabling clients to achieve organizational learning, organizational development and transformation. Most Cheung Kong EDP participants are middle-level managers and senior executives from leading private and government-owned enterprises in China, as well as multinational corporations. The China Country Manager Program by Cheung Kong GSB is well designed to meet its objectives, and I found the quality of guest speakers top-notch. The sessions where CEOs from different industries share their experience in China taught me a lot about how to effectively tackle the unique challenges in the country. I hope that this program is held every year to benefit my counterparts in many more multinational corporations.

The course at Cheung Kong GSB has so far been very insightful in providing views from industry. Specifically the lectures from industry practitioners and professors with radical thoughts were the key highlights and were highly "thought provoking".

Sowri Santhanakrishnan   Director Operations, Greater China Region
COGNIZANT TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS (SHANGHAI) LTD.

Some excellent talks by guest speakers. A lot of good information on macro-economics. Invaluable interaction with the other participants. The networking with other country managers will be useful for years to come.

Enshan Sheng   Country Manager, China
HUNTSMAN POLYURETHANES (CHINA) LTD.

The Country Manager program provided some interesting learnings, insights and opportunities which are unique to Cheung Kong:

Access to key economic advisors to China policy makers which provided some very interesting background about how policies are developed and their purposes. This helps with developing business assumptions and scenario planning.
A key benefit is the network of Cheung Kong which is very extensive in China and includes, MNC's, Chinese entrepreneurs, Government advisors and highly regarded Academics. This is the most powerful business network in China developed by any business school and quite frankly will only grow and cannot be replicated.
The organization of the program was exemplary with a strong service attitude of the people running the program, providing a friendly, professional and pleasant experience.
The topics covered were interesting and gave me an opportunity to sit back and take a helicopter view of my business and learn from other participants experiences in China.
Hainan is a great location for a campus and will attract the best talent to mix business and pleasure together.
Syngenta has developed a custom-made training program with Cheung Kong business school for marketing and sales excellence leading to a mini-MBA in the future. The program has been very powerful in taking our people to another level to deliver growth. The collaboration has been fantastic in all respects.
There is little doubt in my mind that Cheung Kong business school will become one of the premier business schools in Asia and in the World.

Stephan Titze     General Manager
